THE THREE POINTED STAR

Mercedes-Benz brand to many represents luxury, wealth, and refinement. It started off as two different companies namely; Benz & Cie by Karl Benz and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaf (DMG) established by Gottlieb Daimler. the Mercedes Car was manufactured by DMG in 1900 but did not see much success as prices became a problem for drivers after war broke out in Germany. in 1926 however, DMG and Benz & Cie now merged into Daimler-Benz.

HISTORY BEHIND THE MERCEDES-BENZ SYMBOL

The "Three Pointed Star" has seen significant changes until the current symbol which is well known world wide was designed eventually. It all begun when the chairman of the supervisory board at Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) called Alfred Von Kaulla asked for the design of a catchy and easily recognizable symbol for their Mercedes braded passenger cars in 1909. The sons of the company's founder, Paul and Adolf Daimler adapted a three pointed star which their father, Gottlieb Daimler had used as a mark to signify their family house on a postcard as the brand logo. DMG then applied for legal protection for the design made for the symbol.

The star was initially used without a surrounding ring and was combined with the "Mercedes" lettering on the bonnets of the Mercedes passenger cars.

Evolution of the "Three Pointed Star" took place in 1921 when DMG registered a vivid star in a ring as an emblem.

In 1925, a new symbol was adapted for the brand. this symbol had a star and a laurel wreath as a combined unit as the new symbol for Mercedes-Benz.

Applications were made in February and April of 1925 respectively to register the logo and the Mercedes-Benz mark as trademarks which was prior to the merging of the two great car makers Benz and Cie and Daimler-Motoren- Gesellschaft (DMG) into Daimler-Benz AG in 1926 and 1927. This indeed signified the rise of the new dawn. The new symbol had a circular outline with the inscription "Mercedes" at the top and Bez at the bottom and a star in the middle. This design of 1926 gave rise to a complex trademark that reflected the claims made about their products by the two carmakers and also alluded to some of the history behind the company and the brand. In 1933, Mercedes-Benz then registered a streamlined form of the emblem comprising a slim, black circlet in which the black silhouette of the Mercedes star could be seen.

Today, a silver circle with a Three-Pointed Star in the center is now recognized as the Mercedes-Benz logo.
